New 8plex iTRAQ reagents speed up biomarker discovery
The original 4plex version of iTRAQ reagents has been highlighted in more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and, with the introduction of 8plex reagents, researchers can efficiently expand their quantitative proteomic experiments by simultaneously analysing eight samples within a single experiment. Direct determination of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in filter samples
The optimised methodology, using an Exeter Analytical Model CE440 CHN elemental analyser, requires a minimum of sample preparation and may be used for single samples or automated for higher throughput environments. The Model CE440 is a static combustion system, with a unique horizontal furnace design, which enables easy removal of filter and sample ash between each analysis. Consequently, one combustion tube will analyse in excess of 1000 samples without the need for removal and cleaning. Applied Biosystems has developed a line of reagents for streamlining the process of
quantitative reverse transcription PCR in RNA-based research applications. The new
solutions expand Applied Biosystems’ portfolio of reverse transcription PCR reagents: 
A method for easy, direct automated elemental analysis of material retained on glass
or quartz microfiber filters used in water filtration and air monitoring applications is
available for the Exeter Analytical Model CE-440 CHN elemental analyser.
Direct determination of total CHN retained on a filter is more sensitive, precise
and cost-effective than making measurements on pre- and post-filtered samples and
calculating the difference. This has been confirmed in a study conducted for the US
EPA on particulate concentrations in water samples. Direct determination is preferred
over the traditional ‘by difference’ method because of the reduced sources of error,
rapidity of analysis and increased sample representativeness due to the greater
volume filtered.
